Afro Dance

Afro Dance at Still & Moving Center

If you’re longing for a joyful, expressive, beat-focused dance experience, Afro may be the style for you. Exploring the vast dance traditions of different African countries and cultures, this dance form is gaining popularity all over the world. With deep drum beats, African dance (Afro for short) is heavy on the rhythm, but brings plenty of heart and soul too. Many Afro dance styles come from traditions of celebration, used in ceremonies and rites of passage. Most are high-energy and joyous, putting you in touch with the feelings of freedom, connection, and gratitude. Not only will you get a great full-body workout, but you’ll leave with a smile on your face.

Some of the most popular dance moves today come from traditional African styles, often inspired by or modified from indigenous dances of countries like Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Afro dance classes are perfect for challenging your coordination and building your stamina. Building upon traditional tribal dance, Afro dance uses a wide range of movements for arms, legs, feet, hands, head, and spine. This is a wonderful way to push the limits of your inner expression, letting yourself be moved by the music, while having the time of your life!

The deep drum beats await you, in our Honolulu Afro dance classes, here at Still & Moving Center. Come and join in one of these fun, fast-paced, community-driven classes, and let’s break a sweat together!
