18th Annual Celebration- Mahatma Gandhi Day 2023

October 1, 2023, @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm HST

Still & Moving Center’s Doris Morisaki will lead a group of hula auwana dancers to perform a graceful, poignant hula to the song from Maui: Pohai ke Aloha .
The dancers lovingly echo the sentiments of the final lines of the song, addressed to a family of Maui.
Those lines translate to:
O Pierced with love
Soothed by our memories that
Were fulfilled.

Additionally, Cliff Tillotson – legacy co-founder with Renée Tillotson of Still & Moving Center – will be speaking on “An Example of Peace in Action”. Cliff has been actively serving on the Partners in Care board to address houselessness. Most significantly, he has helped to create Hui Mahi’ai ‘Aina in Waimanalo, a tiny house village for people transitioning out of houselessness. Cliff will introduce Blanche McMillan, the founder of Hui Mahi’ai ‘Aina, as an exemplar of Peace in Action. This village of people has managed to collect, sort and send off many shipping containers of supplies to fire survivors on Maui. From the wonderful progress Blanche has made in Waimanalo, Auntie Blanche is working to launch similar villages on neighbor islands.
