As a parkour enthusiast\, Eddie craves that freedom in his dancing as well. He seeks to share carefree abandon and high-level awareness with us\, which comes with a well-trained body\, an attuned nervous system and an active mind.   \nLearn also a brand new piece of Eddie’s unique choreography. Enjoy the fun of dancing a new creation through your body! \nDevelop your deep awareness and choice in this intermediate/advanced contemporary dance and movement exploration workshop.  Mindfully train your brain alongside the body with Eddie’s technique of Animal Mindfulness. Eddie’s inspiration comes from working with companies Ultima Vez and Emanuel Gat Dance and through his years of daily meditation.  \nThis two-minded workshop ranges from meditative to impulsive\, with an ‘as we are\, not as we want to be’ approach. Eddie offers tools and guiding throughout the workshop to enable both your subtle and more physical awareness. Develop presence. Our goal is to observe and understand the instinctive animal inside\, to recognize the direct weave of the human mind and animal body. We seek to learn how mindful decision and wildness can coexist.  \nIn one mind\, the uniquely human mind\, we dance and move around the space together using tools to expand awareness to the subtle and gross sensations in our bodies. We accept what we find without attachment or avulsion (separation from the whole). We awaken our senses and play with their affect on our movement experience. Rather than focusing on a particular destination\, we encourage new pathways in the brain that lead to a more present state of being. Individually\, we challenge ourselves as movers to test our specific “edge\,” to understand our natural limitations\, and to discover places where we can go deeper. \nIn the second mind\, we give special attention to wildness inside\, the animal. We wake up in the body what we seem to not remember. Our games and structured play benefit proper reflex and response training\, maintaining calm equanimity. Tapping into a hyper-intelligence\, we can move from this animal mind without fear or self-judging. From here\, we can forget the “wrong” or “right\,” the “bad” or “good” and retrain how to let movement come from intuition as we did when we were young\, untamed children. \nEddie’s years of daily meditation support his dance inspiration.  \n*More information about Eddie at www.myhomelesslover.com* \nIn-Person students will be temperature checked and expected to maintain masks\, social distancing and hand sanitizing at all times. If you have travelled outside of Hawaii within the last 14 days and/or have symptoms of COVID 19\, please refrain from attending. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n				 Eddie Bruno Oroyan\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Originally from Hawaii\, Eddie now dances and choreographs professionally in Europe. Oroyan worked with Ultima Vez for six years\, having toured and performed primarily with What the Body Does not Remember and In Spite of Wishing and Wanting. He is currently working and touring with Emmanuel Gat Dance on several projects as well as making his own work with Jessica Eirado Enes in their company\, My Homeless Lover. \nHis experience spans Attic Projects\, Creach/Company(NYC)\, Shapiro & Smith\, ARENA Dances\, Zenon\, Andrea Miller\, and Roberto Olivan. He was a founding mover and an Artistic Associate for company Black Label Movement and continues as an active choreographer. He has presented collaborations at American Dance Festival with Carl Flink and Zürich Tanzt with Rakesh Sukesh. Eddie presented a solo in 2016 at P12 Space in Brussels and a duet with Natalia Pieczuro\, ENTROPY\, as part of Dag van de Dans 2017 at STUK. \nAfter an injury in late 2014\, Oroyan began a practice of meditation and observation. His performing and studies have long included animal reflex training and proper response. His newer practice continues to teach him curiosity and awareness of the more subtle and delicate\, the empathetic. After returning to performing and teaching\, Oroyan is moved to explore and share these discoveries through the stage and classroom \n \n SEE OUR RELATED EVENTS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Get the Still & Moving App\n \n APPLE APP STORE\n \n GOOGLE PLAY STORE

Students learn both hula kahiko (ancient hula) and hula auana (modern hula)\, with the basic dance steps\, hand gestures\, as well as mele (Hawaiian singing).  \nKumu teaches the keiki (children) how to play traditional hula implements: ipu (gourd hand drum) for the little ones\, and a full set of implements for the older kids: pūʻili (bamboo sticks)\, ʻuliʻuli (feathered gourd rattle)\, and the ipu. She recommends Aloha Hula Supply in Honolulu as a reliable source of implements\, available in person or online: www.alohahulasupply.com. \nKumu Malia imparts a genuine enthusiasm for learning as well as a deep appreciation of nature.   \nYour child will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual May Day event (details forthcoming as the situation evolves). \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kuma Hulu Malia Helela\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Mālia is an authentic Kumu Hula: a recognized hula teacher\, officially having graduated after 17 years training from her teacher\, Pulu’elo Park. Fluent in Hawaiian\, Kumu Mālia frequently composes her own original oli (sacred chants).  Kumu Mālia has an affinity for teaching young children.  For the last decade she has developed lessons specific to infants\, toddlers and preschool aged keiki. She also enjoys sharing classic hula and songs with the elderly. In keeping with her tradition\, she is an observant and reverent student of nature and keeper of the land – the ‘aina. \nKumu Mālia Ko’i’ulaokawaolehua Helela strives to live a life of grace. Her halau\, which meets at Still & Moving Center\, is Na Hula Ola Aloha. Completing her uniki under Kumu Hula Puluelo Park in 2002\, she now teaches hula and oli to a wide range of students\, from infants and toddlers to kupuna. Mālia studied oli (traditional Hawaiian chant) under Kumu Hula Keola Lake. She continues to look to the beauty and grace of the Hawaiian environment for grounding and inspiration. \n \n SEE OUR RELATED EVENTS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Get the Still & Moving App\n \n APPLE APP STORE\n \n GOOGLE PLAY STORE
