DESCRIPTION:February 2 – April 26\, 2020 (no class on Easter\, April 12)\n \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Spring Series: \n12 weeks \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Children who participate in hula halau (school) receive one of the best introductions to Hawaiian language and culture. Kumu Mālia teaches the basic moves of both hula kahiko (ancient hula) and hula auana (modern hula)\, as well as oli (Hawaiian chanting). Keiki (children) also learn a true appreciation for nature and how to make flower lei. As students progress through the halau\, they learn to use hula implements\, such as the ipu (gourd drum)\, ‘ili‘ili (stones)\, and pu’ili bamboo sticks. \nHula showings for some classes: Still & Moving’s Birthday celebration Mar 14\, 2020 and ‘May Day is Lei Day’ celebration May 3\, 2020. \nFebruary 2 – April 26\, 2020 (no class on Easter\, April 12) Spring Series: 12 weeks \nKeiki Hula Halau Spring Series (3-6 yrs) Sundays\, 8:15-9 am \nKeiki Hula Halau Spring Series (7-12 years) Sundays\, 9:45-10:45 am \nPrice: $230 Spring series\, $20 drop-in (only for first two sessions) \nReserve your spot! \nMy First Hula Series (3-6 yrs) with Mālia Helela \nFeb 2- April 26\, 2020 (except Easter- Apr 12) \nSundays 9:00-9:30am \nThis series is geared towards keiki who are new to taking formal classes. Kumu Mālia’s warm and inclusive style of teaching ensures that each keiki (child) feels right at home. Fluent in Hawaiian\, Kumu Mālia frequently composes her own original oli (sacred chants). Kumu Mālia has an affinity for teaching young children. For the last decade she has developed lessons specific to infants\, toddlers and preschool aged keiki. She also enjoys sharing classic hula and songs with the elderly.
