While the pandemic required us to connect through online classes, Malia<\/span>\u00a0took the opportunity to release a musical\u00a0album<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>just for Keiki, to connect to the magic of Hawaiian music inside and outside her class! Read her inspiration for creating this\u00a0album<\/span>\u00a0below:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so inspired by years of teaching hula to keiki, to kids! My children have been included in my h\u0101lau, my hula school, since birth, and I\u02bbve seen what lights them up over the years. The most poignant classes I\u02bbve taught have been for moms and babies in the Salvation Army recovery programs. Nurturing connections between babies and caregivers, especially in times of hardship, is so important for laying a solid foundation for keiki. Kumu Malia Helela<\/h3>\n

Kumu M\u0101lia Ko\u2019i\u2019ulaokawaolehua Helel\u0101 strives to live a life of grace. Her halau (hula school), which meets at Still & Moving Center, is Na Hula Ola Aloha. Completing her uniki (graduation) under Kumu Hula Puluelo Park in 2002, she now teaches hula and oli (traditional Hawaiian chant) to a wide range of students, from infants and toddlers to kupuna. M\u0101lia studied oli under Kumu Hula Keola Lake. She began her formal training in lomilomi massage as a teenager. She was licensed by the State of Hawaii as a massage therapist in 1998 and as an esthetician in 2002. Her hula practice and lomilomi practice, she says, are the same. She continues to look to the beauty and grace of the Hawaiian environment for grounding and inspiration. M\u0101lia has become a respected and beloved cultural practitioner in Hawaii.<\/div>\n
