Kumu M\u0101lia Helel\u0101<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kumu M\u0101lia Helel\u0101 strives to live a life of grace. Her halau (hula school), which meets at Still & Moving Center, is Na Hula Ola Aloha. Completing her uniki (graduation) under Kumu Hula Puluelo Park in 2002, she now teaches hula and oli (traditional Hawaiian chant) to a wide range of students, from infants and toddlers to kupuna. M\u0101lia studied oli under Kumu Hula Keola Lake. She began her formal training in lomilomi massage as a teenager. She was licensed by the State of Hawaii as a massage therapist in 1998 and as an esthetician in 2002. Her hula practice and lomilomi practice, she says, are the same. She continues to look to the beauty and grace of the Hawaiian environment for grounding and inspiration. M\u0101lia has become a respected and beloved cultural practitioner in Hawaii<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For nearly two decades, Still & Moving has marked Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, with a living retelling the world's oldest epic: the Ramayana. What began as a small community gathering \u2014 a story shared among students and teachers \u2014 has grown into a full theatrical production, drawing dozens of performers ranging in age from 5 to 85. This year, for the first time, that story steps onto one of the most storied stages in the Pacific: the Hawai\u02bbi Theatre.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Epic Tale of the Ramayana<\/em> follows Prince Ram and Princess Sita, cast from their kingdom into exile, and the courage, loyalty, and love that carry them through it \u2014 including Sita's abduction by the ten-headed demon king Ravana, and her rescue by the troops Prince Ram and the devoted monkey-warrior Hanuman. At its heart, it's a story about the triumph of good over selfishness, light over darkness \u2014 the very themes Diwali itself celebrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing this beloved tradition to the Hawai\u02bbi Theatre \u2014 with its own century of history as a gathering place for Honolulu's arts and culture \u2014 marks a new chapter for Still & Moving Meditation Fellowship & Still & Moving Community Center, with an invitation for the wider community to witness and participate in this joyous annual celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
