The Wide World of Hula

Far more than just an enchanting style of dance, hula tells the story of the Hawaiian culture on these islands. It has long been held as a sacred way of communicating between peoples, the land, and the spirit of this place. Hula, in both its traditional (hula kahiko) and modern (hula auana) forms, can be a beautiful and empowering way to move your body and connect with the rich history of Hawaii.

You may have seen hula dancing performed in local shows or other attractions, and now you have the chance to experience it for yourself. As a dance form, hula can be anywhere from very gentle to more strenuous, and is wonderful for challenging your balance, coordination, and rhythm. Hula utilizes many fluid, circular movements of the joints, particularly the hips, which can improve your flexibility the more you practice. Not only is hula a beautiful way to honor Hawaiian culture and history, but it’s great for your health too. It is a whole-body workout that can get your heart rate up, boost your circulation, reduce stress, and help with weight loss too. Plus, you’ll get the added health benefits of a fun and social atmosphere!
