DESCRIPTION:In-person6 weeks series \nSeptember 19 – October 24\, 2025Fridays\, 6:45 – 7:45 pm \nPrice: $120 \n \n Sign Up Here\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nStep into the rhythm and shine on stage with our Salsa Rueda Performance Series! \nIf you love dancing joyfully—especially with others—this series is for you. Salsa Rueda invites you into a lively\, high-energy dance experience where multiple couples form a circle (or “rueda\,” meaning wheel) and follow the calls of a leader who guides the group through fun combinations. You’ll find yourself switching partners\, dancing in sync with the group\, and riding the infectious wave of Cuban rhythm.  \nSalsa Rueda de Casino was born in Cuba in the 1950s and brings together the dynamic energy of Latin music with the social structure of group dances like square or contra dancing. It also incorporates rich elements from other Cuban styles such as Guaguancó\, Rumba\, and Yuka. \nThroughout this performance series\, you’ll dive into the history\, rhythm\, and movement of Salsa Rueda. You’ll learn key calls and combinations\, hand signals\, musical timing\, and the joy of dancing in unison with a group. \nThis is your chance to perform! By joining this series\, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase what you’ve learned at our Diwali Celebration October 26. Step into the spotlight\, connect with the community\, and celebrate the joy of dance. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Gordon Walker - Rueda 808\n \n \n \n \n \n Beware! Prior to salsa\, Gordon dedicated 12 years to the art of capoeira\, where he honed his sense of movement and physical expression. \nIn 2019\, Gordon found himself in the role of a salsa instructor\, a twist that has allowed him to share his insights and passion for dance. He has taught Salsa Casino and Rueda de Casino at the University of Hawaii at Manoa through the Salsa Dancing at UHM RIO since 2019. Gordon is also a graduate student in Oceanography at the university. \nRueda808 is Gordon’s Cuban salsa performance dance group based in Honolulu. They specialize in Salsa Rueda de Casino. This group takes pride in the cultural diversity\, ethnicities\, and backgrounds of its members\, who include students\, professors\, healthcare professionals\, and other community members.
