Renée asks that you commit to attending the entire series. \nLearn from a Nia master in action: Debbie Rosas\, choreographer of the routine “Velvet”! This beautifully crafted routine combines power and grace with a full-spectrum of movement variety. An experienced Nia teacher (which this Mentorship series helps you to become) could take the gorgeous choreography of any of Velvet’s songs and apply the katas to another piece of music. The routine’s focus on the “Hands” works well with this year’s theme at Still & Moving Center: Self-Crafting. \nLet Your Soul Guide Your Heart and the soaring Nia classic Free are some of the outstanding songs you’ll love in the Velvet routine. \nRenée Tillotson\, Nia Black Belt\, 2nd degree\, facilitates a Nia-Life-Spirit check-in before every session\, finding deep relevance to our daily lives as “Spirit clothed in flesh”\, as Debbie Rosas likes to talk about our experience in a sacred body. We connect Nia concepts with a theme for the week\, enhancing our teaching skill to set a focus and intent. \nWe next learn the “katas” that make up each song\, and how they fit with the music\, easily and organically absorbing the principles of Nia’s “bars”. Renée unpacks each move to approach it safely and simply. She also demonstrates more energetically intense variations.  \n \n \n \n Syllabus for the 12 Week series\nJan 10  –  Song 1:  Yours Sincerely \nJan 17  –  Song 2: Oolong Journey \nJan 24  –  Song 3:  Lovin’ Music (Justin Le Mar Remix) \nJan 31  –  Song 4:  Show Me Something \nFeb 7  –  Song 5: Let Your Soul Guide Your Heart \nFeb 14  –  Song 6: National Dobro \nFeb 21 – Song 7: Don’t Deny My Love \nFeb 28  –  Song 8: Free \nMar 7  –  Song 9: How Does It Feel \nMar 15  –  Song 10: Spring Again  \nMar 21  –  Review songs 1-5 \nMar 28  –  Review songs 6-10 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n BENEFITS OF MENTORSHIP \nParticipants in former mentorships series have evolved from never teaching into teaching single songs as guest instructors; to teaching partial or whole classes as subs; to teaching classes of their own; to starting a new studio. By practicing Feldenkrais® you give yourself the chance to transform aspects of your life that go way beyond your musculature.  \nLearn to make use of the powerhouse of your locomotion: your hip-pelvis-lower back connection. The hip joints are part of the pelvis. The psoas muscle connects the legs to the lower back through the pelvis. Opening the hip flexors in this workshop increases healthy mobility and prevents hip damage. These Feldenkrais® movements enable you to sense the connection of your legs into your pelvis and torso so that all parts work together for powerful\, flexible movement!  \nPowerful Alignments:  From the pelvic floor\, the sacrum\, the lumbar spine all the way to atlas. In this workshop you gain more mobility with more control of your pelvis and a longer spine with better alignment. Improvements in the pelvic floor\, sacral area\, diaphragm and palate lead to alignment of the entire spine! Just remember: Elvis ‘The Pelvis’ had great movement and a good voice! \nUsually when we think of muscles we think of the bigger muscles like hamstrings or stomach muscles. We rarely give attention to many important\, sometimes deep\, small muscles\, such as the ones that move the sphincter or the vertebrae of the spine. These muscle groups are often unbalanced. Crooked and inefficient usage shows up as an inherent imbalance in the system. Tight anterior muscles can inhibit organs such as the lungs and the intestines from working efficiently. \n \n \n \n Eva Alewa Geueke\nStudents appreciate Eva’s sincere care for their health and excellence on every level. Her range of personal experience in various moving art forms and her understanding of movement in the human body are vast. She studied Dance in Holland at the prestigious Rotterdam’s Dance Academie and then went on to later study in New York City. She has trained in a wide range of dance forms such as: Ballet\, Modern Dance\, Post Modern Dance/Release Technique\, Axis Syllabus\, Body-Mind Centering\, Contact Improvisation\, African Dance and currently Hula. \nEva Alewa Geueke has been a guild certified Feldenkrais® practitioner for 30 years. She came to the Feldenkrais Method® as a young professional dancer and it changed her understanding of the brain\, body\, movement and therefore\, herself forever. Since completing the 4-year Professional Feldenkrais Training in 1987 she has been teaching the Feldenkrais Method® internationally in thousands of private sessions\, week long seminars\, and hundreds of week-end workshops and evening classes. \nEva loves to share her knowledge and passion for conscious movement and to help people improve and excel in all areas of their lives. She taught Yoga Aerobics® in NYC in the 80’s before getting to know the Feldenkrais Method. Mahalo! \n\n\n \n \n \n Navigating Through Time – This lomilomi training places emphasis on elements that support the ongoing practice of lomilomi. Such aspects include opening and closing protocols and protective measures for practitioners and treatment spaces. We will continue to explore lomilomi in an online context\, focusing on ways to mālama (care for) ourselves and our families. \nThis lomilomi training constitutes one of 8 complementary training programs\, each 16 hours long. As a whole\, the 8 complementary programs\, each with its own focus\, provide 128 hours of training that comprises Maliaʻs full culturally-based approach to lomilomi massage.  \nHawaiian lomilomi massage is unique in all of the ways that Hawai’i is unique.  Lomilomi acknowledges and appreciates the influence of Hawaii’s natural environment on its healing practices. This training provides a foundation in lomilomi that is appropriate for use in a spa setting or within the family. Malia introduces bodywork in the first lesson\, with options for self-massage for those who may not have someone else to work in this online context. Each weekly session builds upon the last so that lessons and themes are intertwined.Topics in the training include\, but are not limited to\, Hawaiian terminology for the course\, opening and closing protocols\, palpation\, using the bones as guides\, and body systems found in nature. To complement the lomilomi massage techniques\, students also learn relevant components of oli (chanting)\, hula (dance)\, pule (prayer) and ‘olelo (language). Lei-making develops skills in the hands and fingers and illustrates the importance of a firm yet sensitive touch. Students will also learn the significance of the moon throughout this training. \n\nSupplies You Need to Assemble: \n\n\nPrintouts of the handouts that you will be emailed in advance \nPareau/sarong or sheet\nAssorted pillows / cushions\nFloor covering for a bare floor\, such as yoga mat or area rug\, unless you have a massage table\nMassage oil or lotion of your choice\n\n \nKumu Mālia \nKumu Mālia Ko’i’ulaokawaolehua Helelā  strives to live a life of grace.
