Melissa was born, raised, and has always lived on Oahu. Because she loves learning, exploring how the world works, and sharing what she learns, over the years she has collected degrees in Studio Art, Computer Science, and Library & Information Science. She worked as a children’s librarian for many years, and is currently a student at UH West Oahu majoring in Information Security & Assurance.

Melissa began taking tai chi and hula classes at the Still and Moving Center this year, and has fallen in love with Zoom as a way to continue learning and making social connections in a supportive community even while staying at home.

This year she attended birthday parties, academic lectures, prayer sessions, weddings, and danced hula with friends spread across the globe– all over Zoom. She says, “technology connects us, and now we know that physical distance does not need to keep us apart.”
