Global Dance Studio in Hawaii
Global Dance Classes in Hawaii. Visit Still & Moving Center’s global dance studio in Hawaii to enjoy Hula, Bollywood, Afro, and Belly Dance classes in person & online!
Dancing is your birthright. Human beings dance. As a Hawaiian global dance studio that offers online and in person classes, Still & Moving Center operates on the premise that all bodies – all shapes, ages, fitness levels and abilities – are designed to dance. Here we infuse all our dance classes with joy and celebration. Be it freeform or choreographed dancing, you’ll find marvelous opportunities to make the mind-body-music connection.
Hula – the native dance of the Hawaiian Islands is our dance centerpiece at Still & Moving. Students from around the globe tune in weekly to take classes with our kumu kula (master hula teacher) Kumu Mālia Helelā. Hula hālau (schools) across the ocean fly their teachers here to study under Kumu Mālia.
Our global dance studio in Hawaii also offers a variety of other styles, from traditional to contemporary. Belly Dance comes from the Middle East, especially Turkey and Egypt. Expressive Bharatnatyam and Bollywood dancing from India, passionate Tango from Argentina and energetic Afro Dance from the African diaspora. Contemporary dance forms, such as Animal Mindfulness and Contact Improv, pop up in workshops and performances. We often invite visiting instructors from various modern and ethnic dance traditions around the world for classes, workshops and performances. In the past we have featured dances of the Silk Road, Brazilian Samba, Indian Bhangra, Nepalese temple dancing, Ballet as Moving Meditation, Afrofunk, Yosakoi from Japan, a Middle Eastern Hafla, African Dance Master classes and dance for the deaf.
No matter the dance style you choose to learn with us, you will recieve clear instruction on safely performing the choreographed moves. If you feel open to exploration while dancing, you’ll find plenty of chances to explore! Immerse yourself in the rhythms of Nia FreeDance, Estatic Dance, and Wave Continuum for personal expression and growth. For a dance workout with yoga and martial arts sprinkled in, try a Nia class! Not able to visit us in person? Join one of our Bollywood or Belly Dance classes online!
All of our classes are taught LIVE – never pre-recorded – and are offered in 3 learning formats:
Live Online: Virtual class from the comfort of your own home.
In-studio Livestream: Virtual class in studio with your fellow students and the instructor streaming to our large screen monitors.
In-person: Classes led the “old-fashioned” way – with your teacher leading the session in person in the studio.
