Mountains of scientific evidence link the health of our body with the health of our brain. A multitude of studies supports the cognitive benefits of consistently challenging our aging minds through problem solving and memory exercises.

For one hour each week for 5 weeks, Eddie shares his passion for dance and music through accessible and mind-stretching choreographies. The class begins with a thorough warm-up of the joints, core, and spine with special awareness of one’s present state.

Then, when the bodies and minds are ready, we learn an in-place choreography that challenges coordination, rhythm and memory while gently attending to our cardiovascular system.

The class is an open level dance class. At intervals throughout the choreography, two options will be offered: one base movement or phrase and another that’s a bit more physically/mentally challenging. Movers are welcome to “choose your own adventure’ depending on ability or mood. By the end of the class, the movers will have a new mini dance that will be set to the music choice of the week that you can take and share with friends, family, TicTok. Eddie will offer a new choreography each week, and, subsequently, new challenges. While we will be training our minds, the goal will be to get out of our heads and into our bodies.

As a parkour enthusiast, Eddie craves that freedom in his dancing as well. He recognizes that carefree abandon and high-level awareness can only come with a well-trained body, an attuned nervous system and an active mind.

In person students will be temperature checked and expected to maintain masks, social distancing and hand sanitizing at all times. If you have travelled outside of Hawaii within the last 14 days and/or have symptoms of COVID 19, please refrain from attending.

Eddie Bruno Oroyan

Originally from Hawaii, Eddie now dances and choreographs professionally in Europe. Oroyan worked with Ultima Vez for six years, having toured and performed primarily with What the Body Does not Remember and In Spite of Wishing and Wanting. He is currently working and touring with Emmanuel Gat Dance on several projects as well as making his own work with Jessica Eirado Enes in their company, My Homeless Lover.

His experience spans Attic Projects, Creach/Company(NYC), Shapiro & Smith, ARENA Dances, Zenon, Andrea Miller, and Roberto Olivan. He was a founding mover and an Artistic Associate for company Black Label Movement and continues as an active choreographer. He has presented collaborations at American Dance Festival with Carl Flink and Zürich Tanzt with Rakesh Sukesh. Eddie presented a solo in 2016 at P12 Space in Brussels and a duet with Natalia Pieczuro, ENTROPY, as part of Dag van de Dans 2017 at STUK.

After an injury in late 2014, Oroyan began a practice of meditation and observation. His performing and studies have long included animal reflex training and proper response. His newer practice continues to teach him curiosity and awareness of the more subtle and delicate, the empathetic. After returning to performing and teaching, Oroyan is moved to explore and share these discoveries through the stage and classroom
