Given all the marketing to which we are exposed these days, people often think of healthy eating with a relatively narrow focus: in terms of eating organic, eating superfoods, or eating lots of fruits and vegetables. In this 1-hour long workshop, we will explore your beliefs around healthy eating, dispel myths, and define healthy eating from my point of view as a registered dietitian. This workshop will be interactive, and I will encourage you to think about how the basic principles of healthy eating relate to your own preferences as you tune into your own body’s needs.
Jinan Banna, Ph.D., RD
Jinan Banna, Ph.D., RD is a registered dietitian and Associate Professor of Nutrition at the University of Hawaii. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in Psychology and her graduate work at the University of California, Davis in Nutrition. She conducts research on obesity prevention and teaches courses such as introductory nutrition and community nutrition. She also helps working women to lose weight so that they can feel confident and energetic and enjoy food without dieting. She offers free information on weight loss and plant-based eating on her blog, as well as individual and group nutrition coaching. Her approach to weight loss takes the enjoyment of food into consideration, and she provides individualized advice for different lifestyles that focuses on sustainable changes. Coaching sessions leave women to free themselves of dieting and to feel confident eating food they enjoy and maintaining a healthy weight.
