Step onto the floor and wine your waist with Afro-Caribbean Soca — a high-energy, joy-filled dance style that blends African, Indian, European, and Indigenous movement and musical influences. You’ll learn popular Soca moves and a Carnival-inspired choreography led by Carnival choreographer Diandra Jones. Come ready to sweat, smile, and move with freedom.
Diandra’s global dance classes will leave you feeling as if you’ve traveled the entire world through dance!
Diandra traveled North America and Europe for five years with Trinity Irish Dance Company after earning her title as a champion-level, world-ranked competitive Irish Step dancer. She has danced on Broadway, with the Joyce Theatre, and in Hollywood films.
Now, Diandra dedicates her life to studying cultural dances ranging from West African and Bhangra, to Brazilian Samba, Chicago House and Argentine Zapateado. She spent ten years dancing in West Africa and the Caribbean, where she trained with Sankofa Center for African Dance and Culture, choreographed for Carnival troupes and Soca artists, produced “Long Legs Arts Fest,” and presented her publication “The Cultural Dancer: An Awary Ambassador” at the International Dance Conference in Barbados.
Diandra also shares her passion for mindful movement as a certified Pilates and 500 hour trained Yoga teacher, and as a climate change educator—having survived the eye of historic Hurricane Irma in 2017, on which she published a memoir “Irma Was Here.”
