In this first part of the 2-day workshop, we focus on how our breath relates to spinal health.

Most people have limited knowledge about this important function in our body: breathing. Proper breathing keeps the spine elongated and the lungs healthy. To be able to breathe optimally depends on the flexibility and functionality of our diaphragm and its play with the spine and intercostal muscles. When we breathe freely, not only do we gain energy, improve general health and burn calories, we also keep our spine supple and our neck relaxed! Dr. Feldenkrais felt that breathing needs to be so free that no matter the intensity of activity, it is done with ease. Whether sitting in meditation and yoga, swimming, singing, lifting something heavy, or taking a brisk walk, learn to breathe easy.

One single breathing technique does not suit all situations, however. If your diaphragm, the motor of your breath, is flexible and your ribcage coordinated with the diaphragm’s movements, then you can find the perfect way to breathe with awareness in every circumstance. This ease of breathing is what we will achieve in this workshop. That also means you will create better flexibility between the vertebrae through your breath. Your spine will elongate and help you to counteract scoliosis from the inside out.

Workshops can be taken individually or in combination for even greater benefits.

The Feldenkrais® method was developed by Judo Black belt and physician Dr. M. Feldenkrais in the 1940s to help heal his severe sports injury. His method has helped thousands of people of all ages, world wide, to regain function and recover from injuries, tension and pain.

Dr. Feldenkrais understood that improving the function of the body starts with increasing the mind’s awareness of the body. With this new awareness, you re-pattern your movement, fascia and musculature. You drop excess effort and move with greater ease. Without even realizing it, you are resetting your nervous system. Your brain and body now work together more smoothly as you move.
