IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre has wowed audiences for 30 years with its unique fusion of Japanese butoh and Western contemporary dance, creating performances that are topical, expressive, spiritually engaging, and intellectually and visually stimulating. IONA is lauded for its innovative blend of Eastern, Western and indigenous influences infused with extravagant costumes, witty spoken text, and video.
Artistic Director Cheryl Flaharty’s dances connect audiences to such global concerns as the environment, multiculturalism, religious tolerance, equal rights, or domestic violence.
