Meditation & Culture

Everyone is welcome at Still & Moving Center! That means you! We cherish people from all ethnicities and backgrounds joyfully coming together to learn, share and celebrate. You can participate in such endeavors in our weekly classes and gatherings, as well as our special events, featuring world-traveled artists and teachers. Nourish your mind and soul with inspirational thoughts, chanting, and sacred music through our online and in person classes. Please see Hula & Hawaiian Culture for our specific Hawaiian offerings.

As a global meditation hub, Still & Moving Center starts with the premise that cultures around the world have developed both still and moving meditational practices that help people to center themselves. As you look at our logo, you can see the still point in the center, with the circular swish around it. We envision all of our classes and practices at Still & Moving as opportunities for us each to find our ‘still center’ within, whether sitting or in the midst of motion, and to maintain it as we re-enter the swirl of the world around us.

Traditional meditation trains the seating practitioner to quietly find inner calm, mental clarity, translating into daily mindfulness. Moving meditations, as we call many of our practices, similarly train a moving arts practitioner to hold that still point of focus – that serenity of mind, heart, and spirit – even as the body sways, turns, bends, balances, jumps, stretches, and glides.

Our annual Still & Moving Center Almanac  features quotes from spiritual teachers, scientists, leaders, philosophers, artists, musicians, mathematicians, and writers from throughout the wide world’s history. The quotes provide a seed point for meditation.

Our Gems from the Wisdom Traditions: a Conversation Circle on Saturdays and our Satsang gathering on Sundays allow lifelong learners and seekers to converse on deep topics and to apply them to everyday life. The friendships people cultivate at Still & Moving Center tend to be meaningful and lasting.

As a place of global, lifelong learning Still & Moving Center takes inspiration from the Institute of World Culture in Santa Barbara, California.

Our teachers, trainers, staff, and students have always come from around the globe, making Still & Moving center a vibrant cultural hub in the middle of the Pacific, on the island of O’ahu, itself considered “The Gathering Place”. And so, we are! Join us today in person and online, for global meditation, mindfulness training, and more!

“Still & Moving Center is one of the bright lights in Honolulu for those seeking to find inner harmony and serious work on helping to awaken their inner consciousness.” – Ramdas Lamb
