Mindful Movement Month
Through an initiative led by Still & Moving Center, March was decreed Mindful Movement Month by the Mayor of Honolulu in 2018.
WHEREAS, Still & Moving Center is celebrating seven years as a beacon of mindful movement in Hawai’i; and
WHEREAS, with the belief that the body and mind are connected, mindful movement is performed with awareness and mental focus, training one’s body to move optimally through both athletic activities and everyday life, and assisting in managing stress; and
WHEREAS, Still & Moving Center actively supports the Waimanalo Health Center, Mouna Farms, Wai’anae Comprehensive Health Center, Ho’ōla Nā Pua and other organizations in promoting the transformative benefits of moving mindfully; and
WHEREAS, Still & Moving Center’s theme for 2018 “The Art of Living” emphasizes the importance of healthy, active living in mind, body and spirit; and
WHEREAS, programs and policies supporting mindful movement practices can contribute to health and wellness of our keiki through kupuna,
NOW, THEREFORE,I, KIRK CALDWELL, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, do hereby proclaim March 2018 to be
MINDFUL MOVEMENT MONTH
to encourage residents to move mindfully and joyfully through life, and extend appreciation to the teachers and practitioners who make a positive difference in the lives of others through mindful movement.
