Learn all the fundamental motions for Turkish belly dance, starting with the hip roll and upper body movements. Alana introduces you to all the basic categories of Turkish belly dance, such as the 5 types of shimmy.
Alana presents the class in a slow, easy-to-approach manner that will still give you a great workout! You can take this class as introduction to prepare you for the faster, more challenging Turkish Belly Dance for Fitness and Belly Dance for Performance classes.
This class is also excellent cross training for many dance and other movement formats. You find muscles you never knew you had! You increase core strength, while greatly improving your body control and ability to operate different parts of your body independently.

Alana Fickes
Alana grew up between Oahu and Chiang Mai Thailand, and has been dancing since childhood. She began more focused movement with hip hop, and Tahitian dance. Which morphed into ballroom, partner dancing, Bollywood, heels, and more hip hop. In the last few years she’s had a focus on Argentine tango, latin partner dances, and Bellydance. In her outside life she works primarily with women on connecting more deeply to themselves and their relationships to others. As well as exploring creative expression. Over the years Alana has developed a holistic philosophy around connection through movement, and loves to incorporate that in all that she teaches. As a Gemini Sun, Libra moon and Cancer rising … She carries a spiritual depth and playful energy. She’s sure to lift your spirits, and ground you in connection with yourself, your body, the earth, and community.
