Build the confidence to practice, progress, and teach aerial hammock through a proven, progressive methodology developed over decades of real-world experience.
In this immersive four-day training, internationally recognized aerial educator and AIReal Yoga® creator Carmen Curtis will help you expand your understanding of the hammock beyond the movements you may already know. You’ll explore foundational aerial skills, safe alignment, body mechanics, progressions, modifications, creative transitions, teaching techniques, and lesson development—all within a supportive environment designed to meet you where you are.
This training welcomes AIReal Yoga® and aerial yoga teachers, aerial hammock practitioners, experienced students, current aerial instructors, and those interested in teaching in the future. AIReal Yoga® or aerial yoga experience provides a valuable foundation, and no previous aerial circus, dance, or performance experience is required.
Whether you want to deepen your personal practice, add new dimensions to your teaching, begin your aerial hammock teaching journey, or bring a structured curriculum into your studio, you’ll leave with practical tools and a clear roadmap for continued growth.
Participants receive 24 hours of hands-on instruction, personalized feedback, a downloadable curriculum manual, instructional videos, ready-to-use lesson plans, continued-learning resources, and a Certificate of Completion.
Come ready to move, explore, play, and surprise yourself.
This isn’t simply a weekend of learning new aerial skills.
It’s an immersive learning experience.
Over four inspiring days, you’ll move, explore, create, laugh, ask questions, practice, receive individualized feedback, and develop a much deeper understanding of aerial hammock than can be gained from simply watching videos or collecting tricks.
Each lesson builds upon the next, allowing you to truly absorb the material rather than simply trying to keep up.
You’ll leave with greater confidence, a clearer understanding of movement, practical teaching tools, and a roadmap for continuing your aerial journey long after the training has ended.
Throughout the training we’ll primarily use a low-set hammock.
Beginning lower allows you to safely develop proper technique, efficient movement patterns, body awareness, coordination, strength, confidence, and creativity before progressing higher.
Low-hammock work is also incredibly practical for studios with lower ceilings and for teachers who want to introduce students to aerial movement in an accessible, supportive environment.
The foundational principles learned during the training can be adapted to longer hammocks and higher rigging points, giving participants a versatile methodology they can continue developing in a variety of aerial hammock settings.
Because when the foundation is strong, everything else becomes easier.
One of the greatest gifts this training offers is learning how to learn.
Instead of simply memorizing sequences, you’ll begin understanding how every aerial movement is built.
You’ll learn how to recognize prerequisites, break skills into manageable steps, identify appropriate progressions, offer modifications, and know when students are ready to safely advance.
This methodology continues growing with you.
As your own aerial practice expands over the coming years, you’ll have a framework for understanding how to safely teach new skills instead of feeling like you’re constantly starting over.
Some participants join because they simply love aerial hammock.
Others dream of becoming teachers.
Many come somewhere in between.
No matter your goal, this training meets you where you are.
If your goal is to deepen your personal practice, you’ll leave with greater confidence, improved technique, and a deeper understanding of movement.
If your goal is teaching, you’ll begin building the foundation for becoming a knowledgeable, safe, and inspiring instructor.
This training is not about producing perfect performers.
It’s about helping every participant become a more confident mover, learner, and—if they choose—a future teacher.
For aspiring teachers and studio owners, one of the most valuable parts of this training is receiving Carmen’s structured teaching curriculum.
Rather than wondering what to teach after students learn the basics, you’ll receive a clear, progressive roadmap that helps students safely develop confidence, strength, creativity, and skill over time.
This curriculum has been refined through:
• More than 25 years of aerial experience
• More than 20 years of teaching
• Over 17 years of owning and operating a successful aerial studio
Every progression, lesson plan, and teaching method has been tested, refined, and improved through thousands of hours of real-world teaching with students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
You’ll leave with a proven system—not just ideas.
Throughout the training you’ll explore:
• Foundational aerial hammock skills and techniques
• Safe alignment and efficient movement patterns
• Progressive skill development
• Strength, mobility, coordination, and body awareness
• Creative transitions and aerial dance-inspired movement
• Progressions and modifications for different experience levels
• Teaching methodology and effective cueing
• Spotting and supportive teaching practices
• Beginner class development
• Sequencing and lesson planning
• Understanding prerequisites for advanced skills
• Creating safe, engaging, and successful aerial classes
• Adapting material for both low and higher hammock settings
This training is ideal for:
• Aerial hammock practitioners wanting to deepen their practice
• Aerialists looking to strengthen their foundation
• AIReal Yoga® teachers
• Yoga teachers interested in aerial movement
• Aerial teachers wanting a clearer beginner curriculum
• Studio owners developing aerial hammock programs
• Experienced hammock students considering teaching
You do not need to currently be a teacher or have previous aerial circus, dance, or performance experience to attend. Some experience using an aerial hammock is recommended, and AIReal Yoga® or aerial yoga experience provides an excellent foundation for this training.
Your registration includes:
• 24 hours of immersive, hands-on instruction with Carmen Curtis
• Personalized coaching and individual feedback
• A downloadable and printable curriculum manual
• Instructional videos for continued learning
• Ready-to-use lesson plans and sequencing resources
• Carmen’s progressive aerial hammock teaching methodology
• A proven curriculum developed over decades of teaching
• Practical progressions, variations, and teaching tools
• Resources to continue your practice long after the training
• A Certificate of Completion
Upon successfully completing the training, participants will receive a Foundational Aerial Hammock Training Certificate of Completion.
For those wishing to teach, this training provides an exceptional foundation for becoming a safe and knowledgeable aerial hammock instructor.
Like every movement discipline, true mastery comes through continued practice, observation, experience, and teaching.
Teaching readiness naturally develops at different rates for every individual.
Our goal is not simply to certify teachers.
Our goal is to help cultivate thoughtful, confident, and responsible aerial educators who continue growing long after the training has ended.
This training is separate from, yet beautifully complements, the AIReal Yoga® 50-Hour Teacher Training.
While the AIReal Yoga® training focuses on using the hammock as a prop to support and deepen the practice of yoga, the Foundational Aerial Hammock Training explores the creative world of aerial movement, transitions, aerial arts, and dance-inspired skills.
Each training stands beautifully on its own, and together they provide a comprehensive understanding of both yoga and aerial hammock methodology.
