As rest becomes a sought after commodity, restorative practices such as yoga fill our need to still the mind and find a deeper connection to the spirit and body. As we begin to value and prioritize “rest”, we find a number of restful yoga practices that help us to hit our internal “pause” button.

Restorative Yoga classes de-stress and re-balance our energy, to renew and ready us for a calm evening, good night’s sleep and a clear day ahead. Restorative Yoga uses a variety of postures supported with props, such as chairs, bolsters, blankets and straps to experience a deep body relaxation. We move our spine in all directions, alternately stimulating and soothing our organ systems. We reverse the effects of gravity, returning the fluids to our upper body and enhancing heart function. Reducing muscle tension and fatigue, as well as improving digestion, we provide a supportive environment to relax the body.

Yoga Nidra powerfully stills the mind and allows us to rest more easily in our bodies, feeling more comfortable in our own skin. We simply listen to the simple, clear instructions, follow them mentally, and refrain from sleeping. We emerge from Yoga Nidra feeling unusually refreshed and regenerated.

With Yin Yoga, you extend the duration of the postures, engaging in static stretching. We aim to increase circulation in our joints and improve our flexibility. When the muscle is fully stretched, the stress reaches the connective tissue. Asanas are usually held for three to five minutes. Because of the long duration of asanas, one of the key values cultivated in the practice of yin yoga is patience. Sometimes called “cold yoga”, yin is best practiced when the body is not already warmed up.
