This workshop serves a wonderful facelift, softening and toning the face, flushing the lips and elongating the neck and spine. As we move the neck and facial muscles we connect with the important vagus nerve, affecting our mood at a deep level and many crucial body functions. We also loosen and release the neck/shoulder matrix.
We rarely give attention to the many important small muscles, such as the ones that move the mouth, eyes or even the vertebrae of the spine. These muscle groups are often very unbalanced, just as one side of a person’s face and mouth may move quite differently than the other. Crooked and inefficient usage shows up as an inherent imbalance in the whole system. We will be surprised with the results, once we start moving with awareness to balance unnoticed parts of our body.
Re-balancing, restoring and realigning forgotten muscles and connective tissue can even enhance our organs. As we activate the muscles of the face by smiling, we stimulate the vagus nerve and mood hormones moving through the body, benefiting our immune system and all the inner organs, such as the heart, lungs, digestive system and intestines. Who knew that a smile could do so much good for our health?!?
By practicing Feldenkrais® we give ourselves the chance to transform aspects of our life that go way beyond our musculature.
