The chest houses our vital organs, so it needs freedom and mobility for the health of our diaphragm, lungs and heart. In this workshop, your diaphragm and the musculature between the ribs will learn to work together: your ribcage frees up, your spine elongates and your lungs glide. Good breathing improves everything, as our oxygen is our primary source of energy, our lifeline – even before water and food.
Get to know your biggest muscle, the diaphragm – your ‘motor’ in the center of your body – so well that you can move it with ease. This action also moves the heart, which is sitting right on top of the diaphragm and between the lungs. With extra movement and space, the heart can do its work properly. Surprisingly, moving the diaphragm and the ribcage well can also undo neck tension and immobility, as well as tightness between the shoulder blades!
To this Feldenkrais®/SmartMoves workshop Eva adds another modality, WaveContinuum, to recondition the shoulder girdle and arms, as well as enhancing chest-heart-lung mobility and health. WaveContinuum is a powerful somatic method that uses specific sound and breath techniques with a mindful wave motion to open and move tissues and fluids.
The Feldenkrais® Method and WaveContinuum form a smart union to dive deep into a conscious body journey that leaves you more elongated, mobile and oxygenated.
Effective, flexible breathing provides hundreds of benefits, including mental health benefits!
You’ll take a water break in between sections. We plan to record the lesson and make it available to workshop attendees for a small fee.
